Acer is dedicated to protecting and improving the environment in every aspect of our operations. We are committed to providing our customers with sound avenues to responsibly manage Acer’s branded products that have reached the end of their useful life.

Individual Producer Responsibility

Acer supports the concept of Individual Producer Responsibility and is committed to bringing reasonably convenient methods of electronic product recycling to its customers. Acer believes that it is also the responsibility of governments to enable the development of collection networks and customers to discard their end-of-life products appropriately. This collaborative effort enables Acer to effectively manage the reuse and recycling of its electronic products.

Acer is also committed to working with governments during the development of recycling legislation. Acer supports legislation and performance expectations that are based on the reasonably convenient collaborative methods described above.

Standard for Electronics Distribution

Acer requires that its recycling programs are operated in a manner that ensures the proper management of end-of-life electronic equipment, components and materials. Acer encourages its recycling vendors to obtain environmental management systems certifications as well as recycling standard certifications such as Responsible Recycling (R2) or eStewards. All of Acer’s first tier vendors are either currently certified or are in the process of obtaining certification to the R2 Standard. In addition, Acer expects each of its end-of-life management vendors and sub-vendors to adhere to Acer’s Standard for Electronics Disposition.

Recycling Performance

In 2009, Acer Group brands (Acer, Gateway, and Emachines) recycled 5.2 million pounds of electronics in the US alone and is currently on pace to increase recycling to 10 million pounds for 2010. Not all states have legislation requiring customers to recycle end-of-life electronics. However, Acer is providing reasonably convenient collection options in those states as well. The Acer Group is on pace to recycle approximately 1 million pounds of electronics for 2010 in states that do not have electronics recycling legislation.

Recycle Your Old Technology

Is your old computer just sitting there gathering dust? Help keep the environment clean and avoid adding e-waste to landfills by trading in or recycling your old technology.

Computers and related electronic equipment contain substances such as metals, glass, plastics and certain chemical compounds that are highly recoverable, recyclable and reusable. By recycling your old equipment in a responsible manner, you can keep electronic products out of our landfills and help maximize the use of our natural resources. Acer offers a program to properly handle your old technology. Please take the following steps to recycle your old Acer products.

  1. Review State Legislation
Your state may have specific electronic waste recycling legislation that offers collection options in your area. Please go to our Electronic Waste Recycling Legislation page for more information. If legislation is not listed for your state, please continue to step 2 below.

  2. Acer Recycle Program
Acer offers a mail-back program for your old technology. The site allows you to enter you product information into an online order entry tool. Once complete, a mailing label will be sent to your home. A small fee may be charged to cover the cost of shipping. Please go to the Acer Recycle Program page for more information.

If you would rather drop-off your products at a physical location, Acer has partnered with Best Buy to support its in-store recycling program. Best Buy will accept any Acer, Gateway, or emachines branded products returned to their stores nationwide. Please visit www.bestbuy.com/recycle for more details on the Best Buy Recycling Program.

  3. Asset Management Services
Acer America Corporation ("Acer"), in cooperation with GEEP Inc., is voluntarily offering Take Back Services for Acer's institutional customers. The program helps to overcome the challenges in retiring unwanted assets and offers a comprehensive suite of services that maximizes investments, meets environmental standards, minimizes liability, administration and storage costs and enables maximum value recovery.

With the Take Back Services we can assess our clients equipment and help them effectively recover the value of their retired technology. For assets that do not meet remarketing criteria we have state-of-the-art closed loop recycling processes that meet the EPEAT's criterion 4.6.1.1.
